The decision

The most important thing is that whatever the child's gender, almost any sneaker will be a safe bet – since there's really no such thing as men's or women's sneakers!

Sure, there are one or two that boys rarely wear because of their color (good examples are the Air Jordan 1 Mid Coral Chalk or the Nike Dunk Low Fuchsia), but apart from these few exceptions, basically all sneakers are unisex.

Before you buy, it's much more important to answer this question:

First off, it's good to know that when it comes to sneaker height, we split them into three different groups:

• low (let's say these are the low-tops);
• mid (these sit between high and low);
• high (obviously, these are the high-tops).

It's worth thinking about which of these suits your kid best and what kind of shoes they like to wear. That's already a great starting point!

And then there's the question of what color the gift sneakers should be, and whether an Air Jordan, an Air Force 1, a Dunk or, say, a Yeezy will be the right pick.

Don't buy the sneakers you like – buy the ones your kid will like! ☝️

Because there can be a huge difference between the two! The best thing is to somehow investigate/sound out/find out which color and which brand they love most! Otherwise you could easily score a big own goal! If you're really out of ideas, give a gift card instead!
